[Source, San Jose Mercury News]:
Many scientists say the research, with enough funding, could lead to new treatments for diabetes, cancer, Parkinson's and other diseases. It is immoral to close research lines for the millions of desperate people who could be affected by the outcomes of these studies. In August 2001, the president said he would not condone government funding for stem cell lines not already in existence. Though there were republicans who crossed lines to vote with the democrats to pass the bill 63 to 37 in the Senate, the Senate would still be 4 votes short of overturning Bush's veto.
