The following is an excellent way to learn the history of the situation in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. It is a long article, but highly informative. Shlomo Ben-Ami was the Israeli Foreign Minister during the Camp David Accords, and the subsequent Taba talks. Most American readers would be shocked to see such a high-ranking Israeli politician be so admittedly critical of Israeli politics. Regardless, his discussion with Professor Finkelstein actually shows that a viable peace agreement may not have been that far off. Ben-Ami admits that Oslo was a sham offer for the Palestinians, only agreed upon as a result of Arafat's desire to regain access to the Palestinian territories. But also points out that at Camp David and Taba things were closer than some may acknowledge.
