Suicide bomber in Iraq kills 59 as Foreign Investment Laws are Passed

It's important not to forget the situation in Iraq. Often times when the media is focused on one event, other important issues get lost in the fray. As 53 people were killed in a suicide bombing in Iraq, Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih told Reuters that " 'a bill to attract foreign capital by setting rules for investors for the first time since the fall of Saddam Hussein is likely to be approved in cabinet on Wednesday and to be passed by parliament this month.' Foreigners hoping to buy into Iraq's vast oil reserves, however, will have to wait a few more months for a similar law." All this while politicians like Lieberman are willing to consider setting up permanent bases in Iraq. The presence of the American military and long-term plans make Iraqis outraged at the potential selling away of their country to foreign inverstors. Foreign investment under a self-governed Iraq without the presence of occupying forces would be a wholly different situation.
