Why No Mention of the June 9th Explosion on Gaza Beach?

On June 9th, 2006 there was an explosion on Gaza Beach which killed 8 Palestinians. An investigation by the Israeli Army concluded that they had not fired the missiles. Yet, they refused to allow the U.N. to conduct an independent investigation. Human Rights Watch concluded that the investigation by the Israeli Army was "incomplete because it excludes important evidence." Why should they be so fearful of allowing an independent investigation if they did not fire the missiles? And why is this attack never mentioned in the American media?

Whatever the cause for the beginning of this affair, it is the senseless destruction of civilian life that is what is most tragic. The Lebanese civilian population is being killed indiscriminately by Israeli attacks that have only amounted to further provocation. Remember, the Israeli attacks have demolished the civilian infrastructure (roads, bridges, apartment buildings, and the airport) in all parts of the country, north to south, even though Syrian influences were severely waning in all parts of the country except the south. Furthermore, the sheer disregard for civilian life provides Hezbollah with only a wider array of excuses to fire at Israeli citiies, leading to more innocent deaths on both sides.

Even with the story as reported, the overreaction by the Israelis is not justified. It's as though a member of the Los Angeles gang The Crips (Hezbollah) were to kidnap two members of rival gang, The Bloods (Israeli Army). Then the Bloods turn around and bomb the whole of Los Angeles, because the LAPD (Lebanese Government) were incapable of preventing the initial kidnapping. The logic does not hold.
