Six months ago, Ned Lamont's name recognition was, within the margin of error, zero. He made campaign fliers on a copy machine. Today, he unseated the former vice-presidential candidate of the Democratic party with the help of thousands like yourselves who believe that progressive values are what this country needs to move in the right direction. With the national spotlight now on Ned, the Democratic nominee for Senate, it is up to us to continue to spread the message of what he stands for, and to remind everyone of how he differs from his third-party challenger Joseph Lieberman.
- Ned would have filibustered the life-time Supreme Court appointment of Samuel Alito, the radical judge likened to Justice Scalia who, just this year, will get to vote on an array of important issues including Global Warming and Abortion Rights.
- Ned would have voted against Alberto Gonzalez, the man who before being elected was nicknamed "the Torturer" for his role in Guantanamo Bay. The man who rejects the internationally accepted Geneva Conventions for detainee treatment, calling them "quaint" and "obsolete."
- Ned would have supported President Clinton's attempt to provide universal healthcare.
- Ned would not have supported a decision by Connecticut's Catholic hospitals to refuse emergency contraception to rape victims.
- Ned would not have supported school vouchers, which allow the wealthy to withdraw funds from public schools, leaving the poor with increasingly low-quality education.
- Ned would have rejected the Iraq War.
- Ned realizes that the billions we are spending on this war could be used to help secure our education, health care and homeland security systems. He realizes that we would be better off helping Iraq rebuild its infrastructure. He realizes that polls show that the vast majority of Iraqis want us to leave, and that our presence is fueling the insurgency.
- Ned has adamantly rejected any proposal for permanent bases in Iraq, knowing of the anger they caused in Saudi Arabia, and realizing that we must prove that we do not have permanent plans for taking Iraqi oil.
- Ned would not have complained that we are undermining the president by questioning him in a time of war. He realizes that it is courageous to stand up to a president who is abusing his power, that it is brave to engage in all diplomatic options before resorting to war.
