Learn About Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality ensures that the public can view the smallest blog just as easily as the largest corporate Web site by preventing Internet companies like AT&T from rigging the playing field for only the highest-paying sites. Basically this means that the company you order your internet from could determine the speed with which you access certain sites. This doesn't sound like it would be an issue until you realize that your service provider could force companies to pay them to ensure that they provide quality connection speeds for their site. In other words, small start-up businesses who can't afford the rates these companies might charge could get left out because they wouldn't have the resources to compete with the large corporations. A bill that would have provided protections against such unfair practices was rejected in the house after 220/222 of the votes cast by Republicans were against it, while 162/198 of the votes cast by Democrats were in favor of it.
