We were told numerous times about how Iraq was central to the so-called "War on Terror" and even though there were plenty of people who brought attention to the absurdity of such claims, the Bush administration kept making them. Well, for those who still had any doubts the Senate has now released a 356 page report which shows that "findings indicate that Saddam Hussein was distrustful of Al Qaeda and viewed Islamic extremists as a threat to his regime, refusing all requests from Al Qaeda to provide material or operational support." The report further indicates that Saddam may have actually been active in trying to kill Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the figure the Bush administration also spent several years trying to capture. Still, a CNN poll released this week found that 43% of U.S. residents said they believed Hussein was personally involved in the attacks; 52% said he was not.
