Diane Feinstein, Senat0r from CA, was only one of six Democrats to vote in favor of Mukasey for Attorney General. Mukasey refused to call water boarding torture and has basically claimed that the president has authority to do whatever it he wants if it is meant to "protect our country".
But what could be more important in protecting the United States than protecting the documents whose very values which give the nation its sense of identity? The constitution is where our basic rights come from, it is the constitution that separates the United States from most nations, and this administration--with it's fear tactic's--has made people lose sense of it's importance.
And for Feinstein, who comes from one of the nation's most progressive states, to lose sight of that should not go unnoticed. She is beginning to build a record of right-wing stances on a number of issues. [Remind me to do an article on her voting record]. We live in a time when senators and congressmen are re-elected without opposition, giving them the sense that they don't have to answer to their electorate. We must stand up against Feinstein and let her know that this vote will not go unnoticed. If the politicians wont fight to preserve the constitution and human rights then we will.

Senate Democrats are now refusing to let Bush get away with his latest egregious abuse of power. They voted unanimously for a bill WITHOUT retroactive immunity to the major telecom companies who broke the law.
Everyone expected Dianne Feinstein to vote with the Republicans, but because of your workimmunity. Senator Feinstein did the right thing and voted for the bill without retroactive
DFA stepped in. We sent a call to action, and you stepped up. With over 175 calls per hour totaling 2,399 reported calls to Senate Majority Leader Reid, DFA members across the country put the pressure on Democrats to do the right thing. And we won!
DFA stands up to Democrats who align themselves with Bush. But we can't do it without you.
Now, because of your action, Bush's allies in his illegal war against our civil liberties will be held accountable. Because of you, the law will apply to everyone -- without special exceptions for Bush's corporate buddies.
And most importantly, together, we stood up to a Democrat who too often forgets which party she belongs to. And we won!
Thank you for taking action to hold the Bush Administration accountable. Tonight we celebrate; tomorrow we get back to work.
