Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who herself was elected with the support of Florida Democrats, is now refusing to campaign on behalf of other Democratic nominees who are challenging incumbents in the S. Florida region. Schultz claims that it's out of respect for the Florida congressional coalition that she is not willing to campaign on their behalf. Below is the e-mail I sent to Schultz in regards to her neutrality. You can e-mail her at AskDebbie@dwsforcongress.com . Feel free to copy and paste my e-mail if you don't feel like writing your own:
Dear Congresswoman,
I'm writing to you as someone who has the utmost respect for your work in Congress, but who is also deeply disappointed by the fact that you have not openly campaigned on behalf of the Democratic nominees in the South Florida area. I write to ask you to kindly consider how it would appear to the non-affiliated voter that the chair of the Red to Blue program is not willing to campaign on behalf of Democratic candidates who differ fundamentally from their Republican counterparts on issues as important as Health Care, the war in Iraq, fair taxation, and NAFTA. I know that you care deeply about issues important to Democrats and I trust that you could share that message with your constituents, urging them to realize that a vote for the new Democratic nominees doesn't mean that you reject your Republican counterparts as individuals, but that you reject their stances on important policy issues.
I hope you understand how important this issue is to me and so many other Democrats who are working for a strong Democratic majority in Congress. Thank you for your time.
All best,
X.
