After Barack presented his comprehensive energy policy in a speech a few days ago, an individual in the audience asked him what steps individuals could take to do their part to help in the energy crisis. Obama, ever-informed as always, answered that on the individual level people could start by inflating their tires which would improve save gas consumption by 3 to 4%. The McCain campaign, following the Bush tradition of disliking facts, mocked Obama for his response.

Our friends at Politifact have also looked into Sen. Barack Obama's claim about tire inflation and found it to be true -- not merely that car tune-ups and proper tire inflation will save millions of barrels of oil per year, but that it will save more energy than new off shore drilling would yield.
