McCain was campaigning on an oil rig today yapping about how he wants to drill offshore, but he was originally scheduled to go a few weeks ago. The reason he canceled his earlier trip is because there was an oil spill the day before his planned speech and he didn't want to bring attention to the hazards of off-shore drilling. But let's even assume that the hazards--which are real--are really not even an issue. Off-shore drilling still has no immediate effect and only has about a couple percent effect over the long term. The point is that all McCain's crap about drilling now is political b.s. And the old John McCain, the once principled senator, was against off-shore drilling for precisely that reason. What's more is that if John McCain were so interested in solving the energy crisis in this country he would agree to the compromise proposed by a bipartisan group of senators calling themselves the Gang of Ten who have offered a bill that would allow for some limited off-shore drilling while also taxing the windfall profits of the oil industry to help invest in long term alternative energy infrastructure. Obama has agreed to sign off on the compromise because it means getting billions in tax investments for energy independence. John McCain has not. Why? Because he doesn't want to tax the oil companies' windfall profits. Look to #3 on this list to learn more about John McCain's timid approach to the energy/climate change crisis.
