Remember two years ago when Obama said that our primary focus should be on Afghanistan? :
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Militants attacking a compound in Afghanistan's east killed a U.S. soldier on Thursday, making 2008 the deadliest year yet for American forces in the country that sheltered al-Qaida while the terror group plotted the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
This is the same Afghanistan where the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff just admitted that we're not winning. And any troop increase in Afghanistan would mean a troop reduction in Iraq, because our military is overextended. For that reason Bush was unable to meet the demands of Admiral Mullen for more troops. With Iraq in a political stalemate, it's obvious that the only real gains there will come from increased diplomacy.
