Is This One of Those Moments In American History?

I was watching John Kerry talk about Barack Obama on ABC's This Week (click here to watch) and it was interesting to see how sincere he seemed about the potential for transformational change that Obama presents. Now, I don't live in a fantasy world and realize that transformational change can only come about with across the board victories in Congress, but Kerry insisted that because of the unique moment in American history (another way of saying because of the failures of Republican leadership) the time was ripe for new ideas to take hold. It was as though he was arguing that 2008 could mark the end of the conservative ascendancy that began with the fall of Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968, and which led to the "Reagan revolution". I feel as though the potential is there and that the country is tired of conservative politics, but that the right leader is needed to inspire the beginning of the new movement. That's why I don't see someone who is a symbol of the 90's, namely Hillary Clinton, and the bitterness that that decade entailed as being able to be that leader. I'm thinking of an American majority that comes together to fight global warming, to fight our dependence on foreign oil, to change our arrogant foreign policy, and to bring about universal health care. It's not as far-fetched as you might imagine when you think about it.

Vote Obama 2008!
