An associate said that Kennedy believes that Obama can best unify the country. Kennedy was also impressed by Obama's deep involvement last year in the bipartisan effort to craft legislation on immigration reform, a politically touchy subject the other presidential candidates avoided.

This is a huge endorsement for Obama, and it should shore up support among liberal voters who have nothing but respect for Kennedy. Kennedy is also one of the most experienced and well-respected Democrats. He, along with John Kerry (whose support Obama already has) and Al Gore, are undoubtedly the biggest endorsements a candidate could get. And if you think that it's insignificant, read the blurb from the Huffington Post about how hard Clinton worked to get Kennedy's backing.
